A collection of black stoneware bowls, each decorated with different designs.
Classic forms, slip cast from my own original handmade moulds. Finished with white porcelain patterning.
These vessels are unglazed on the inside. Although fired to high temperature and fully vitrified they are best suited to dry decoration or contents.

Designs represent traditional and contemporary African patterns.
Some are inspired by textile tie and die patterns - the classic Moon and Stars pattern can be found in African Adire tie dye and also Japanese Shibori.
Others are inspired by African face and body painting patterns or shapes favoured in Islamic art.

The nature of the bowls means they are not necessarily symmetrical.
